Matador Mario Aguilar died in his home recently, at the young age of 27. News reports indicate a possible suicide.
I was fortunate to see him perform twice, once in Leon, Guanajuato in January 2010, shortly after his alternativa (professional debut) and shortly before his confirmation in Mexico City, as well as once in Tijuana, in September 2012.
Over the next few weeks I will post photos of Mario from these two occasions.
A wonderful tribute to Mario was aired this week on Sol y Sombra, the weekly broadcast from Mexico City.
Here is the traje de luces of Mario from his bullfight in Tijuana. The tie clip is of Santo Toribio Romo, a martyred Catholic priest who is the among the patron saints of Mexican migrants. (tap or click to enlarge).
